PDA/Satellite/Handheld ordering for Hospitality Point of Sale

PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) device's have been used as hand-held order taking devices in the hospitality industry since the mid 1980's. However, from my perspective its only in the last couple of years since advances in wireless transmission speeds, prolonged battery life, more manufacturers developing PDA devices at reasonable prices and making them available from "off the shelf" through your local IT supplier that has allowed PDA's to come of age and be used as a cost effective performance order taking device or also known as WOS “Wireless Order System”.

Table management

ProTouch Satellite will allow for the tracking of orders by seat and by course. Items like a steak meal can have step through modifiers for steak temperature, type of sauce and the addition of Veg or Salad.

Satellite also allows modifiers to be used with + - control which results on a Kitchen printer as +egg or -egg (prices can be attached) this results in less modifier buttons for the operator to work with and increases order time to enter an order.

 

PDA modifers

Once the order has been sent the Protouch Register will process the order and store the order to a tab or table and then send all items that require printing to the designated order printers i.e. Kitchen Hot/Cold or coffee and Bar.

Satellite Allows the operator to print a customer's bill at the reception or bar receipt printer.
